Thornbury Town Council is excited to announce the adoption of its Capital Strategy, which was formally approved at the Full Council meeting on Tuesday, 10th September 2024. The Capital Strategy outlines a comprehensive plan to develop the Town Council’s building and land assets in a way that balances the needs of the community with legal responsibilities, financial sustainability, and available resources. These assets have been categorised into two main groups: amenities and buildings. Each project within these categories has been assigned a timescale and color-coded to show its alignment with the Town Council’s Strategic Priorities.
At the heart of the Capital Strategy is one of the Council’s top priorities: addressing the climate emergency. Every project will be pursued with this critical goal in mind. To shape the strategy, the Town Council considered various inputs, including asset condition surveys, stakeholder feedback, and community survey results, such as the Youth Survey conducted last year.
Funding for the projects will come from various sources including Grants, Community Infrastructure Levy, Capital Reserves and potential Public Works Loans.
“Having worked hard on this project over the last couple of years, I am really excited to finalise our Capital Strategy. The strategy includes much-needed facilities which will benefit all the residents of our growing town” said James Murray, Thornbury Town Mayor. “I am particularly excited to see plans for new youth focused facilities such as the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area), refurbished skate park, pump track, and much needed changes to our water play area at The Mundy Playing Fields. Sport fans in the community will also benefit from a 4G pitch and cinder running tack alongside improved facilities at both the Chantry Playing Field & the Mundy Playing Fields. Thanks go to my fellow councillors and all the office team for their hard work and input to this strategy.”
The Capital Strategy will be updated as new information is realised with implementation closely monitored. Updates will be made available via the Town Council’s website and social media to keep residents informed of progress.
