Memorial Tree Planted in Memory of Councillor Clare Fardell
A memorial tree was planted in the Mundy Playing Fields on 15 December 2020 in fond memory of Clare Fardell who sadly passed away in August. COVID-19 restrictions unfortunately meant that only a few of her many colleagues and friends could join Clare’s husband for this special occasion. Clare had served as a Councillor on Thornbury Town Council for several decades and was very well known in the town. She had also served for many years as a South Gloucestershire Council Councillor and as a school governor at Gillingstool Primary School. The Deputy Mayor of Thornbury, Councillor Chris Davies, said “Clare made an enormous contribution to the town and was involved in many projects and organisations that improved the lives of local people, such as the Over 60s Team Room at the Town Hall, Thornbury In Bloom and Thornbury Volunteer Centre. We are honoured to mark all of her achievements today. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by many people.” The tree planting was organised by Judith Hurford, Thornbury Tree Warden, who is a member of the Environment Committee of Thornbury Town Council, a Committee on which Clare served for many years. Councillor Matt Stringer, Chair of the Environment Committee, said “Clare was a longstanding member of the Thornbury Town Council Environment Committee, and put a lot of work into various projects including Fairtrade. As Chair, I would like to say that Clare will be sorely missed on the Committee especially her enthusiasm and energy in getting things done.”
